Muran Buidhe is a beautifully moving, well-balanced bull from hardy, functional stock. He is bred from the maternal sister of the 2019 Oban sale topper and Gilleaspuig of Tiretigan, who bred cows at Ardbhan until 17 years of age.

Highland Spice purchased Muran Buidhe at the 2024 Oban Spring Highland Sale in Scotland, where he was the second highest-selling bull of the day. He was selected for his natural fleshing ability, moderate frame, balance, and overall soundness. With thanks to Angie Long, his semen was imported to Australia in 2025.

We can’t wait to see what this bull brings to our herd – our Spring 2026 AI calves will be the first for this bull in Australia.

The Ardbhan herd of pedigree highland cattle is based on the Isle of North Uist in the Outer Hebrides. The cattle are run on 3500 acres of farm and Croft land in  a ‘ranch system’ where, for the most part, they need to manage themselves. This means that calving ease, good feet and good udders are the backbone of the system – and they cull to eliminate animals that do not exhibit these traits. A shorthorn bull is used to cover any females that do not meet this standard. They believe in a butchers knife over a foot trimmer or a crush to assist a calf onto the cow.
