The first time we visited Bronwyn and Malcolm (Sea Crest Highlands) we saw a little dun bull calf, and Bronwyn casually remarked that “one day he could be your bull”. We saw him at a couple of shows where he was entered in the junior bull classes, and we always found him quite striking. We had briefly discussed Calen as a potential future bull, but Bronwyn had planned to keep him for a year or two to show. But then 2020 happened, and the National Highland Cattle Show and VHBG Victorian State Show were cancelled. So just as we concluded that we needed to buy a bull, Bronwyn decided that it was time to sell Calen, and the rest is history.

He truly is an exceptional bull, with balanced proportions, and a unique combination of length, depth and muscling. He has excellent feet and a magnificent head. He is solidly predictable in the paddock, and enjoys a brush. With his first crop of calves on the ground, we have seen that he improves top lines and feet, and imparts muscling, length and good even depth to his offspring. They have almost without exception had long thick coats – particularly the duns and blacks. Every one of the heifers has been quiet and easy to train and most of the steers, even without much handling, love to come over for a brush or a scratch.
